East and West and Cognition
Koláček, Luboš
of rigorous work Mgr. Luboš Koláček, Ph. D. The work is a specific approximation of the European author to the thought of the West with the East, based on the thinkers he selected on both sides. It presents a reflection of ontological, epistemological, ethical and psychological, sociological and other questions and answers to the problem, indicated by the name itself. It is a kaleidoscopic thinking that, by multiplying the contents in the reflections of the others and the others in the third thinkers, intertwines and unfolds into a huge breadth of ideas. In the work, intentionality is contained in the appropriate network of connections, which represents the West as thinking of explicit meanings and the East as thinking of implicit meanings. The point is to present to the reader not only ready-made statements, but the reader is invited by questions to cooperate in uncovering the unconcealed, i.e. aletheia. It is a hermeneutic method that starts from ready-made answers and only then comes to the questions that are at the same time the background from which the answer arose. It is a special dialogical method that does not want to juxtapose ready-made judgments, but requires the reader to go through this challenge as a co-solver of the question that is to come to the difference between the West and the...
East and West and Cognition
Koláček, Luboš ; Hogenová, Anna (advisor) ; Rybák, David (referee) ; Kalábová, Helena (referee)
The work is a philosophical and necessarily also historical-philosophical comparative analysis of mutually corresponding accents of the issue spanning the period from the 8th century BC to the present, with regard to the "axial period" of cultural "miracle" similarly prosperous cultures and philosophies in the relatively severed countries of East and West. It then deals in more detail with some important and fundamental philosophers and spiritual teachers, related scholars or artists of various disciplines, but also lesser-known personalities, based on general inputs into the deepest depths of thought of these thinkers, all in a relatively intuitive connection, because the scope of work does not allow for a more detailed continuous interpretation of such a wide range of issues. In the end, the author emphasizes, philosophically analyzes and evaluates the most pressing issues of contemporary society. The work should primarily show the Way, not lead, but it is up to the reader / researcher to decide how to approach the text. There is always "some" Enlightenment at the end.

Vinklát, Marek ; Gebelt, Jiří (advisor) ; Kropáček, Luboš (referee)
The work introduces the reader into the etic definition of magic and into the Mandaean emic definition. Author chronologically and phenomenologically systematizes history of Western scholarship of Mandaic magical texts and then he deals with them phenomenologically, philologically and according to religious studies. He refers to the methods which should be used during the examination of these findings and he points out the phenomena, which are to be noted. In some cases, he reffers to non-Mandaic magical texts and he also seeks for their possible influence on the Mandaic texts. Author uses the primary texts in Mandaic and secondary literature especially in English and German.

Jiruš, Milan ; Dvořáková, Markéta (advisor) ; Hogenová, Anna (referee)
The aim of my thesis is to improve the orientation of students in the field of the basic hermetic sciences, for exemple the alchemy, the astrology and the magic, which are developping also nowadays. The first part of my thesis is considered to describe the renewal of the hermetism in Bohemia in the end of 19th century and to watch its development till the 30th of the 20th century. Another part of my project decribes the hermetic society "Universalia" and it presents the main and significant members of this groupe. Chapiters that follow this text deal with the alchemy, the astrology and the magic - it's the essential part of my theses. They are considered to explain the young people these terms, to present them the history of these hermetic sciences, to open the scientific approach and first of all to compare several texts of czech hermetics of the limited period with the contemporary view with the following purpose - to instruct the students to approach to the hermetic science in the critic and cautious way. The last text is dedicated to the ocult science in the nazi Germany and to its relation with Bohemia.

Iatromathematics in medical discourse of early modern era: Czech lands before 1620 Mgr. Jakub Žytek, M.Phil. Abstract: This dissertation examines iatromathematics, or astrological medicine, in the early modern medicine of the Czech lands before 1620 (sources ranging from 1491 to 1619). It seeks to both comprehensively outline this specific and then quite standard medical doctrine as well as assess the role and significance of iatromathematics for the practice of the early modern physician and its position within the system of contemporary humoral medicine as a whole. Within the Czech study of the history of medicine, such a systematic treatment of the topic of iatromathematics is unprecedented. Having defined the historical framework of astrology in European cultural history and the concept of astrologia naturalis in the contemporaneous philosophy of nature, the thesis maps the tradition of iatromathematics in medieval sources of Czech origin and the development of the discipline in the early modern era. Then, employing textual analyses and interpretations, it examines various medical sources (books of prognostica, bloodletting booklets, almanacs, treatises on plague, phlebotomic instructions, health regiments) that focused on the influence and action of the heavenly bodies on human health. The thesis...
Haptic constellation models of the zodiac
VEŠKRNOVÁ, Iva
This bachelor thesis is divided into theoretical and practical parts. The theoretical part deals with the problems of blind and visually impaired people and the theory of creating haptic models. It also deals with the development of zodiac across history and its depiction in selected monuments. The aim of the practical part is to create a total of twelve haptic models of the constellation of the zodiac. The models are primarily intended for people with visual impairments, but will also serve the general public. Joachim Herrmann's "Stars" publication serves as a model for the rendition, where the constellations are unified. The resulting models are made of sharpened ceramic clay and painted with acrylic paint. The models are accompanied by a set of drawings that are created in a specially designed vector graphics editor. The resulting set of models will be exhibited in the Jindřichův Hradec Observatory by prof. František Nušl.
Thaddaeus Hagecius ab Hayek and His Contribution to the Renaissance in Bohemia
Karlík, Ondřej ; Veverková, Kamila (advisor) ; Lášek, Jan Blahoslav (referee)
The dissertation begins with an introduction about Renaissance, because Thaddaeus Hagecius lived and worked in this age. Renaissance was both an age of faith in hermetic sciences and an age of important scientific discoveries which fundamentally influenced the transformation of cosmology. My intention is to explain the characteristics of this period in the beginning of the dissertation. The next chapter is mainly focused on Hagecius's biography and an overview of his main writings. At first, I dealt with Hagecius's youth and his studies in Bohemia and foreign countries. Afterwards, I mentioned the areas that Hagecius had developed and the writings that he had published about them. I have more thoroughly expanded Hagecius's activity in medicine and astronomy because they were the main areas of his research. In another part of the chapter, I have outlined the friendship between Hagecius and Brahe. I have closed the chapter with an explanation of Hagecius's reference to alchemy. In the third chapter of my dissertation, I have introduced Hagecius's scientific efforts in four areas. These are as follow-astronomy, medicine, botany and brewing, because Hagecius contributed to these four areas with an interesting manner. These areas also show the huge diversity of Hagecius's interests.
